Available Models

The basic Mabook is only available with a 13" screen, whilst the MacBook Pro's are available in 13", 15" and 17" versions featuring 1280 x 800, 1440 x 900 or 1920 x 1200 resolution displays with LED backlighting and glass covered reflective screens. The 15" and 17" models are also available with a non-reflective screen.

Hardware Specification

Current MacBooks feature PC based processors and graphics chips. These are dual core Core2Duo units manufacturered by Intel and are of varying speeds depending on the specific model. The graphics processors are provided by nVidia, being based on GeForce 9400 or 9600 GT PC-based cards featuring either 256MB or 512MB of graphics dedicated RAM depending on machine specification.

All MacBook use 2.5" SATA hard drive for their storage requirements ranging from 160GB capacity in the 13 inch MacBook Pro to 500GB in the 15 inch unit. Solid State Drives (SSD's) are available on higher-end MacBook Pro models. All MacBook's feature a slot loading CD/DVD rewriter based on the SATA interface.

All MacBook's come with either 2GB or 4GB (depending on model) of PC3-8500 DDR3 SO-DIMM SDRAM memory installed, running at 1066MHz.

Battery life

All MacBook models employ a sealed non-user removable battery which, due to it not using the traditional space-wasting round cells, allows for a market-leading seven plus hours of running time on a single charge (eight hours for the 17" Pro version). The batteries are stated to last for 1,000 charge cycles before requiring replacement.

Other Features

All MacBook now feature a Mini DisplayPort for connection to external display devices. These connectors work in a similar way to that of a conventional HDMI connection although with a smaller sized connector. Other connectivity options include FireWire 800 (not on the White MacBook), an SD card slot and several USB2 ports. A Kensington lock slot is used for security.
